This study investigated the feasibility of producing ethanol from cassava peels at high temperatures (40°C) using simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) with Kluyveromyces marxianus. The SSF process was compared to separate hydrolysis and fermentation (SHF) and a modified SSF process where the microorganism was introduced after hydrolysis. The results showed that SSF produced the highest ethanol yield, with 53% of the theoretical yield for 5.5% cassava peels and 44.8% for 10% cassava peels. The SHF process resulted in a lower ethanol yield of 41%. The study also found that there was a significant amount of glucose remaining after fermentation, suggesting that further optimization of the fermentation process is needed to improve ethanol yields.Downloads
