Abstract

This study investigated the synthesis of sulphonamide substituted derivatives of morpholine from appropriate benzenesuphonyl chlorides obtaining excellent yields of oily products. The structural elucidation was confirmed by 1H and 13C NMR spectral analysis. The synthesized compounds; 4(-phenylsulonphonyl)morpholine and N-(4-(4-Methylbenzene-1-sulphonyl)morpholine) were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against bacteria; B. subtilus, S. typhi and E. coli. Both compounds were moderately active against B. Subtilis, but had no inhibitive activity against E. coli. Whereas, N-(4-(4-Methylbenzene-1-sulphonyl)morpholine) was moderately active against S. typhi. The physiochemical properties of the synthesized compounds evaluated, revealed its’ potential for drugs.
