GREEN SOLVENTS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF SOME TOLUIDINE-DERIVED SCHIFF BASES
Abstract
Most of the procedures used in the synthesis of toluidine Schiff bases involve the use of toxic chemicals. The present study reports the use of green solvents (ethanol and water) in the synthesis of some toluidine-based Schiff bases. The results obtained indicate that the use of green solvents, especially an ethanol-water (1:1) mixture, promises a convenient synthetic pathway in terms of work-up procedures, short reaction time and high yields. The spectral data, IR and NMR, of the products are in complete agreement with those of authentic samples. Â Keywords: Green chemistry; Schiff bases; solvent-mixture; aqueous medium.ÂDownloads
