Abstract

Complexes of Cu(II) and Co(II) with (E)-NI((1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene)isonicotinohydrazide (HL1), (E)-NI((furan-2-yl)methylene)isonicotinohydrazide (HL2) and (E)-NI((thiophene-2-yl)methylene)isonicotino hydrazide (HL3) have been synthesized and characterized by melting point, elemental analysis, infrared (IR), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), electronic absorption spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy and molar conductivity. The results suggest that the ligands coordinated in the enol-form. All the complexes are non-electrolytes with a square planar geometry. The in-vitro antituberculosis (anti-TB) screening against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.TB) H37RV using the proportion method indicate that some of the metal complexes were more active against the tested organism compared to the corresponding ligands and reference compound (INH). The metal complexes of the pyrrole containing compound exhibited significant activity when compared with the reference compound. Keywords: isonicotinohydrazide, Schiff bases, Copper(II) and Cobalt(II) complexes, In-vitro anti-tuberculosis activity.
